A shocking post regarding BYD is currently circulating on Chinese social media.
An "internal whistleblowing" report concerning quality control has surfaced online, purportedly from someone identifying themselves as a BYD employee or affiliate.
The post states that "stainless steel was swapped for cheaper carbon steel."
Furthermore, other posts claim:
"All materials were exempted from inspection."
"Incoming Quality Control (IQC) was eliminated for both internal and external suppliers."

Instances of subcontractors in China making unauthorized changes to materials have actually occurred with Japanese cars manufactured in the country.
Fortunately, these issues were discovered before leading to any major incidents or accidents, so I recall there being no significant turmoil.
Unauthorized material changes are particularly difficult to manage; in a worst-case scenario—such as with suspension or powertrain components—insufficient strength could lead to part failure while driving, potentially resulting in serious accidents.
I cannot say for certain whether the YouTube video in question is genuine or misinformation, but the possibility of a supplier making unauthorized material changes is certainly plausible.
Automobiles—whether gasoline-powered or EVs—are composed of a vast number of parts.
It is impossible to constantly verify and manage every single one of them.
Notably, BYD implemented a payment system for its suppliers utilizing digital receivables known as "D-Chains."
Suppliers reportedly faced high fees—ranging from 8% to 10%—to convert these receivables into cash.
Furthermore, the average time it took for BYD to fully pay suppliers in cash was an extraordinarily long period—over nine months.
It is not difficult to imagine the strain this placed on the suppliers' cash flow.
Under such circumstances, there is a high probability that suppliers might resort to unauthorized material substitutions or changes without notifying BYD in order to survive.
I have absolutely no faith in Chinese-made products.
This is not merely a matter of differing national characters; I believe there is a fundamental difference in how safety and reliability are approached.
The global trust placed in Japanese cars is, I believe, underpinned by the earnest and conscientious nature of the Japanese people.
There is no significant difference in price or performance between Chinese and Japanese cars that would justify choosing a Chinese-made vehicle.
On the contrary, Japanese cars are far superior in terms of reliability, after-sales support, driving range, and resale value.
Given these factors, I would never choose a BYD vehicle.
