August 6, 2026 is Atomic Bomb Day, the 81st anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima.
This year as well, the Peace Park has turned into a place for far-left activists to ``incite'', going against the wishes of citizens who want a quiet environment to pray.
As Hiroshima Prefectural Police began to ``eliminate the demonstrators,'' Hiroshima citizens cheered and shouted, ``Do your best, riot police!''
Far-left extremists repeatedly clashed while shouting through loudspeakers.
Their actions were violent, far from "peaceful".

The name of the group organizing this demonstration is the "August 6 Hiroshima Grand Action Executive Committee."

Raising slogans such as "Oppose aggression against Asia," "Do not repeat the catastrophes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," and "Stop the war of aggression against China and nuclear war," they have branded Prime Minister Takaichi a "warmonger" and declared their determination to "crush" that "war ceremony."
They denounce the reactionary amendments to the Immigration Control Act and the spread of anti-foreigner sentiment; they condemn the actions of the Takaichi administration as a headlong rush toward constitutional revision and a war of aggression against China, vowing never to let such forces set foot on the soil of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
They have reflected on their past error of pursuing only the "advancement of the labor movement" without aiming to overthrow imperialism.
They have now convinced themselves that a "war of aggression against China"—in other words, a "nuclear war"—instigated by US imperialism is already underway.
Consequently, they are resolved to launch militant, rage-fueled protests to "crush" the August 6 "war ceremony" and "overthrow Takaichi."

Personally, it strikes me that their words sound as if they belong to the language of inhabitants from another world.

Even if one understandably dislikes the Trump administration in the U.S. or the Takaichi administration in Japan, why does that lead to actions defending and protecting China?
How do they view the concerns surrounding the modern People's Republic of China's foreign policy, military actions, and acts of aggression—specifically regarding Tibet, the Uyghurs, the South China Sea, and Taiwan?

Just the other day, I watched a YouTube video featuring an executive from Zengakuren (a leftist activist group).
When the host asked why they repeatedly engage in radical activities, the perspective and reasoning revealed were completely removed from those of ordinary people.

These far-left individuals believe that the U.S. and Japan are conducting joint military exercises for the purpose of destroying China with nuclear weapons.
As for the issues of Tibet, the Uyghurs, the South China Sea, and Taiwan, they dismiss them all as nonsense spread by the "American empire."

**************************************************************************************

Against the backdrop of moves by the Trump administration in the US, the Japanese imperialist administration led by Sanae Takaichi has decisively accelerated its maneuvering to join the conflict involving Iran; in tandem with this, it is rushing full-scale preparations for a war of aggression against China.

Defense Minister Koizumi attended an international meeting to discuss the deployment of a multinational force to the Strait of Hormuz and joined a joint statement expressing "political support for the multinational military mission."
The "Ground Component Command Exercise," which began on the 17th, involves the establishment of a joint Japan-US command center on Miyakojima and the deployment of a missile unit to Ishigakijima and a reconnaissance and electronic warfare unit to Yonagunijima.

It is simply because Prime Minister Takaichi has resolved to personally instigate a war of aggression against China, using a "Taiwan contingency" as a pretext.
Japanese imperialism has relentlessly built up the apparatus for a war of aggression against China in preparation for a 2027 conflict, all while stoking xenophobia through slogans such as "the 2027 Taiwan contingency" and "a Taiwan contingency is a Japan contingency."
They are attempting to repeat—on a vastly larger scale—the horrors of World War II, during which as many as 20 million people were massacred across China and Asia.
The Takaichi administration is the very architect of this undertaking. This is absolutely unforgivable.

The Zengakuren website (https://zengakuren.jp/) is also packed with grossly distorted content.
For Zengakuren members, it seems the Chinese Communist Party represents justice, while the United States and Japan are the villains.

In every era, there are people who harbor deep misunderstandings about the world, nurse grievances, and commit wrongful acts; yet, the actions of those consumed by radical ideologies often defy the comprehension of ordinary people.

After all, Zengakuren members are students.
A student's primary duty is to study—ultimately to better themselves, support their families, pay taxes, and contribute to Japan's prosperity.

It is a truly senseless waste to let oneself be led astray by misguided ideologies and incited to commit wrongdoing—thereby squandering one's precious life—before one's character has even fully matured.

Amazon・Primeで、「スター・トレック ディスカバリー」の5シーズンが無料配信中/All five seasons of *Star Trek: Discovery* are currently streaming for free on Amazon Prime.

This is the first series in the franchise to feature a Black woman as the protagonist, with Sonequa Martin-Green in the lead role.
It is also the first series not to center on a starship captain from the outset, though the protagonist assumes the role of captain midway through the third season.
The story is set approximately ten years prior to the original *Star Trek* series (beginning in 2256) for the first two seasons.
From the third season onwards, the setting shifts to the 32nd century via time travel.
The titular starship, the USS *Discovery*, does not appear in the series until the third episode.

********************************** My opinions *************************************

My wife doesn't seem very interested in watching sci-fi movies.
As a result, I’ve been watching it little by little late at night.
So far, the story seems to unfold at a more leisurely pace compared to previous *Star Trek* series.
I also find the mechanics of the "Spore Drive" (mycelial network navigation)—which enables ultra-long-range warp travel—a bit baffling.
Apparently, a "giant tardigrade" that was discovered holds the key to this technology, but the whole concept strikes me as utterly far-fetched.
Furthermore, from what I’ve seen so far, Starfleet seems completely unable to counter the Klingon ships equipped with stealth technology.
It appears that in Season 3, the ship travels into the future and evolves into the "Discovery-A," incorporating "programmable matter" technology.

I’d like to watch a bit more before making a final judgment on the series.

/This summer, the cucumber vines have grown vigorously, and we are harvesting plenty of cucumbers.

The cucumbers are growing amazingly well this year.
They have grown so large from just three seedlings, and I have already harvested over twenty or thirty of them.
Since there are still plenty of blossoms, the harvest looks set to continue for a while yet.

In previous years, the cucumber leaves would turn yellow early on, the plants would weaken, and the harvest would be over after just one or two pickings.
My garden actually has a lot of snails that devour the leaves of my crops, so I decided to use a little insecticide this year.

It seems to have been incredibly effective, as I hardly see any snails anymore.
The increased cucumber harvest this year might well be thanks to that insecticide.

BYD社の「RACCO」を購入した人の半数が、自宅充電なしという意外な実態/Surprisingly, half of BYD "RACCO" buyers do not have home charging facilities.

  Youtube :  https://youtu.be/UoZx8y029WQ

According to this video, it seems that about half of the people who bought the "RACCO" do not have charging facilities at home.
If you live in a detached house, you could likely run a charging cable out to the parking area to charge it; however, if you live in a rental property, you would have to use public charging stations in town every time you need to charge.

I suspect quite a few people might be in for a rude awakening with this.
There are likely many "EV beginners" who bought one simply because it was the hot topic.
They might find the driving range falling short of expectations, forcing them to frantically hunt for overnight charging spots every two or three days.
The thought of it is terrifying.
Perhaps in its eagerness to boost sales figures, BYD isn't properly explaining the practical realities of using the vehicle.

BYDの軽EV「RACCO」、新規発売2週間で受注1,000台突破/BYD's "RACCO"—a kei-class EV designed for the Japanese market—surpassed 1,000 orders within two weeks of its launch.

  https://prtimes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000000244.000043078.html

***********************************************************************

********************************** My opinions *************************************

Cumulative orders surpassed 1,000 units within two weeks of the July 28 (Tue) announcement and launch.
・It has received high praise for its craftsmanship and driving performance that exceed expectations, as well as its extensive equipment and excellent value for money.
・80% of orders were for the top-tier "BYD RACCO 300 Premium" trim.

In Japan's *kei* (light) car market, the most popular body style features a tall profile and electric sliding doors on both sides.
BYD has introduced the "RACCO" EV model into a market still dominated by fossil-fuel vehicles.
Honda's "N-VAN e:" is a competing model in the same category.
However, the Honda model is a commercial vehicle.
If the "RACCO" is viewed strictly as a passenger vehicle, it could be considered the first of its kind in this segment.

Since the "N-VAN e:" is a commercial vehicle, it qualifies for an additional subsidy of $4,913 on top of the standard $3,643 subsidy, giving it a significant financial advantage.

While there is a 75 km difference in their catalog-rated ranges, the difference in real-world usage is likely minimal.
This is because the "RACCO" weighs 90 kg more.
Furthermore, the "RACCO" uses an older type of electric heater, making its winter heating efficiency inferior to that of the "N-VAN e:," which employs a heat pump system.

One would need to drive them to fully understand their handling characteristics, but generally speaking, the "RACCO" is tuned for passenger use, so a smooth, soft ride can be expected.
In contrast, the "N-VAN e:" is designed for commercial use, so its suspension may be set somewhat stiffer; ultimately, however, this comes down to personal preference.

If the subsidy for BYD’s "RACCO" were on par with that of domestic vehicles, I do not think the "N-VAN e:" would stand a chance; however, given the vast difference in subsidy amounts, the "N-VAN e:" holds a massive advantage.

Ultimately, though, both are EVs, so their actual driving range is around 180 km.
In winter, that range could drop to approximately 150 km.
While they might serve well as "second cars" for local errands, Japanese *kei* cars are typically purchased as primary vehicles, so EV registration numbers likely won't see significant growth.
Taking these factors into account, the gasoline-powered N-BOX—which offers a vastly superior driving range—will likely outsell them by a wide margin.

N-BOX Reference figures: Naturally aspirated engine models: approx. 570–583 km
Turbo engine models: approx. 545 km

Honda Motor's earnings for the fiscal year ended March 2015 beat forecasts, with a profit of 400 billion yen.

 https://news.infoseek.co.jp/article/response_414978/

****************************************************************************************

Excluding Subaru, the other six companies reported either increased net profits or a turnaround to profitability.
While the yen's depreciation—which exceeded initial projections—provided a tailwind, a reduction in tariff burdens imposed by the Trump administration compared to the same period last year also contributed to the results.

The average exchange rate for the April–June quarter was approximately 160 yen to the dollar.
The yen's depreciation of about 15 yen against the dollar compared to the same period last year generated a combined operating profit boost of roughly 570 billion yen across the seven companies.

Honda, which had posted a loss of 432.9 billion yen in the previous fiscal year, announced a profit of 400 billion yen for the current period.
At the same time, Honda stated that revitalizing sales in China—where performance remains sluggish—is essential for the restructuring of its struggling four-wheel vehicle business.

********************************** My opinions *************************************

Japan's traditional media outlets blindly portray a weak yen as a negative thing.
This is likely because a weak yen reduces GDP figures and causes a drop in global nominal GDP rankings.
However, take a look at the graph on the left.
For the roughly 30 years following the collapse of the bubble economy in the early 1990s, the Japanese economy suffered from prolonged low growth, deflation, and stagnation.
The root cause was actually an abnormally strong yen that stifled exports.
This is evidenced by the fact that, starting around 2013—when the yen underwent a rapid depreciation—the economy recovered, employment increased, and national tax revenue skyrocketed.

The "proactive fiscal policy" being pursued by the Takaichi administration amidst the current economic upswing makes perfect sense, yet the media fails to report on these constructive government actions at all.
Instead, they do nothing but spread negative information to the Japanese public.
Japan's traditional media is simply no longer worthy of trust.

However, I was appalled by the sales strategy Honda outlined in this article, which stated that turning around its sluggish sales in China is essential for the restructuring of its struggling four-wheel vehicle business.
It is precisely this inability to make the right decisions quickly—unlike Suzuki—that has led to Honda's current slump.
Honda has no future if it is forced to pin its hopes for a business recovery on the People's Republic of China—a nation whose economy is already heading toward collapse and facing "lost decades" ahead.

Global food inflation triggered by "war" and "El Niño"

**********************************

Maximo Torero, Chief Economist at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), stated that the world is on the brink of food inflation, driven by the wars in Iran and Ukraine as well as the El Niño phenomenon, which are causing rising costs and reduced crop yields.

"Commodity prices are expected to start rising further from here; food prices will also begin to climb by the end of the year and are certain to rise further next year," he said.

He pointed out that "issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz affect agricultural production and all inputs for agricultural systems."

He added that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil and gas infrastructure are putting pressure on export markets for diesel fuel and natural gas.

On February 22, 2022, Dmitry Medvedev—who has served as both Russian president and prime minister—posted a mocking tweet saying, "Welcome to the brave new world!" following the freezing of the pipeline project. This suspension was expected to cause European natural gas prices to soon skyrocket to "2,000 euros per 1,000 cubic meters."

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has had far-reaching negative consequences across the globe, extending well beyond mere price surges.
As Ukraine is one of the world's major breadbaskets, the price of wheat skyrocketed almost immediately.
Furthermore, the refusal by Western nations to import Russian LNG not only drove up energy prices but also increased reliance on coal-fired power generation, thereby stalling efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Since then, the global political landscape has seen a shift toward the far-right, deepening the divide between right-wing and left-wing factions.

Amidst this situation, perhaps the most dangerous development is the intensifying hegemonic ambition of China's leadership.
China has openly declared its intention to launch a military invasion within the next few years with the aim of incorporating Taiwan into its own territory.
Moreover, it is proceeding with the construction of military bases in the Spratly Islands in a bid to secure maritime hegemony in Asia.
There is growing concern that the escalating confrontation between Western nations and this hegemonic power could eventually lead to a major global conflict.

Although rarely reported in mainstream media, it appears inevitable that the entire world will face a food crisis in the near future.
Whether due to climate-related natural disasters, war, national fragmentation and declining state power, large-scale economic collapse, or a combination of these factors, there is a high probability that the Japanese people—particularly given the country's low food self-sufficiency rate—will find themselves unable to secure adequate food supplies.
While the surge in rice prices last year garnered significant attention, I believe we are likely to face a far more severe global food shortage—one that could even result in deaths from starvation.

A Chinese woman suddenly appeared at the convenience store, repeatedly kicking the door to the checkout counter and shouting at the clerk, "Do you want me to pee myself?"
She then forced the counter door open, barged into the restricted area, and demanded, "I'm going to pee right here! Got it?"
Screaming, "I have to pee—I need the restroom," she reached for her trousers and began to squat down.

When the clerk tried to grab her right hand and lead her outside, she shouted, "That's none of your business!"
She then pulled down her trousers and squatted.

Gasps of shock rose from the other customers, but just then, police officers arrived in response to a report and dragged the woman out to a nearby park.

China now boasts the world's second-largest GDP, and a tendency to look down on neighboring countries has become widespread. Yet, just a decade ago, Chinese restrooms featured the type known as "Ni Hao toilets"—facilities that lacked partitions.

Consequently, squatting to relieve oneself with one's buttocks fully exposed in public was considered a perfectly ordinary act.

Chinese people who do not understand communism in China

Youtube: 「日本なんて嫌だ」帰国した中国人を待っていた地獄 /The hell that awaited the Chinese person who returned to China after declaring, "I hate Japan."

There are Chinese nationals who came to Japan for work.
Without exception, they struggle to adapt to Japanese customs and lifestyles, and they often say they dislike the Japanese people.

Their three-year work visas eventually expired, and they returned to China, only to find the country in the midst of an unprecedented economic downturn.
They speak of the hardships they face in trying to find employment.
When they attempt to leave the country again, they are reportedly subjected to scrutiny not only regarding their travel purpose and duration but also concerning their entire personal assets.
While such scrutiny is standard practice, it seems incomprehensible to those accustomed to working in a capitalist society.

China is a communist state, and its leadership is pursuing a policy of "common prosperity."
Fundamentally, communism precludes the concept of private wealth ownership.
Any income an individual earns through labor is considered the property of the entire nation.
Therefore, in principle, they ought to surrender all the assets they acquired while working in Japan to the state immediately upon their return.

Japan's legacy media only reports the downsides of the weak yen.

Following the yen-buying intervention conducted by the Japanese and U.S. governments on July 31, the dollar-yen exchange rate—which had been on the verge of breaching the 165-yen mark—fell to the 157-yen range.
Japan conducted further foreign exchange intervention on August 3, causing the dollar-yen rate to briefly drop into the 155-yen range.

A particularly notable aspect of this intervention was the U.S. selling its holdings of euros to secure the dollar funds needed for the yen-buying operation.
U.S. interest rates are currently high.
If Japan were to sell off large quantities of its U.S. Treasury holdings to fund yen intervention under these conditions, it would drive U.S. interest rates even higher.
To avoid this, the U.S. employed an unconventional strategy: selling euros and using the proceeds to buy yen.

The U.S. is concerned that upward pressure on interest rates originating in Japan could lead to a rise in U.S. rates.
Since Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi took office, markets have reacted negatively to her inclination toward fiscal expansion; consequently, long-term interest rates—previously in the mid-1% range—have climbed toward 3%.
Because Japan holds a vast amount of U.S. government debt, a deterioration in Japan's fiscal health could potentially spill over and impact the United States.

While the Takaichi administration enjoyed high approval ratings for a long period, there are signs of a recent shift in sentiment—particularly among unaffiliated voters—away from Takaichi.
Sensing this crisis, Prime Minister Takaichi likely wishes to move forward with a consumption tax cut.
However, the majority of voters view the weak yen negatively.
If her consumption tax cut were to trigger rising interest rates and a further depreciation of the yen, she might ultimately lose public support.

The U.S. is not necessarily trying to facilitate the yen's depreciation; rather, it is likely concerned about the impact on the strength of the dollar.
This is because a strong dollar hinders the correction of the U.S. trade imbalance—a key goal for President Trump.

While Japan's traditional media frequently frames the weak yen as a problem, the reality is not entirely negative; yet, these positive aspects go largely unreported.

******************************************
※Benefits of a weak yen
・ Advantageous for exports: Japanese products (such as automobiles and machinery) can be sold more cheaply overseas, boosting sales and profits for exporting companies.
・ Increase in foreign visitors: Shopping and dining in Japan feel more affordable to inbound tourists, benefiting the tourism industry and local businesses.
・ Increased value of foreign currency assets: Holdings such as U.S. dollars or foreign stocks rise in value when converted into Japanese yen.

※Drawbacks of a weak yen
・ Higher import costs: Prices rise for imported goods such as food, clothing, and raw materials.
・ Surging utility costs: Japan relies on imports for the fuel used to generate electricity and gas, as well as for gasoline, leading to a heavier burden for utility expenses.
・ Increased costs for overseas travel and study abroad: More money is required for trips or studies overseas.

******************************************
As the yen weakens, the price of exported goods drops, boosting exports and creating more jobs within Japan.
If exporting companies perform well, it inevitably leads to higher wages and an improved domestic economy.
From an overseas perspective, the relative cost of Japanese labor decreases, potentially attracting more foreign companies to set up operations in Japan.

Japan’s export industries were thriving during the era when the country held the world's largest GDP. However, during the Democratic Party administration, the yen appreciated to the 80-yen-per-dollar range, eroding the international competitiveness of export products and leaving the manufacturing sector exhausted.
The Japanese media vocally criticizes the administration over the yen's depreciation and the country's drop in GDP rankings.
While a weaker yen may indeed drive up the costs of imports and energy, it also holds the potential to revitalize domestic production.
A weaker yen could be an opportunity for Japan's resurgence.

「ロード・オブ・ザ・リング: 力の指輪」シーズン3、Prime Videoで11月11日配信開始/"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" Season 3 premieres on Prime Video on November 11.

Detailed information has not yet been released, and the teaser video on Prime Video appears to be unavailable, but I was able to watch the trailer on YouTube.

While the previous seasons felt like a mere prologue, I believe the story is finally moving into the heart of the series.

"The Rings of Power" is based on J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings* and its appendices; it seems designed to fill in the unseen aspects of the original story.
Since the original tale is shrouded in so many mysteries, I am deeply interested in this series.
According to information online, it appears that the "Balrog"—a monster from the ancient world—will also make an appearance.
The trailer also seems to feature a scene where Smaug (the gold-loving dragon from *The Hobbit*) destroys the Dwarven kingdom beneath the mountain.

With some time remaining before the release on November 11, I plan to re-watch Seasons 1 and 2 in preparation for the final season.
