Following the dissolution of the Centrist-Reformist Alliance and the return of Lower House members to the party fold, Komeito aims to project a fresh start by revamping its organizational structure.Noting that Mr. Okamoto served as Policy Research Council Chairman for the Centrist-Reformist Alliance, Mr. Saito explained that he is "the most suitable person to lead Komeito as the central figure in realizing centrist politics."

I have no intention of discriminating against foreigners, but surely someone naturalized from China is not a suitable choice for party leader.
In the United States, for instance, certain restrictions are placed on the eligibility of naturalized citizens to serve as lawmakers, out of consideration for national defense.
There was a time when the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger—an actor and former Governor of California—could not run for president became a topic of discussion.
This was because the U.S. Constitution limits presidential eligibility to "native-born citizens."
I have long believed that Japan should adopt a similar rule.
As things stand, if the Komeito party were to take power, Mr. Mitsunari Okamoto (born Chen San-cheng)—who is originally from China—could become Japan's Prime Minister.
Speaking from the perspective of public sentiment, I simply cannot accept the idea of someone from China—a country that frequently acts aggressively toward Japan—becoming Japan's Prime Minister.
