As demand for electric vehicles (EVs), renewable energy, and advanced electronic devices surges, competition for battery metals and rare earth elements is intensifying.
Nickel is an essential resource for the production of EV batteries.
In Indonesia, a nickel industry led by China—specifically involving smelters and processing facilities that rely on coal-fired power—is causing severe environmental and social harm.
China has fueled the expansion of this industry by providing aggressive, and arguably predatory, financing for large-scale projects, such as the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) on the island of Sulawesi, as well as various smelter complexes on the island of Halmahera.
Many of these facilities operate their own dedicated coal-fired power plants, yet the products manufactured there are supplied to clean energy supply chains abroad.
The total coal-fired power generation capacity within these industrial parks reaches 5 gigawatts—a scale roughly equivalent to the entire annual power generation capacity of Mexico.
Beyond emitting vast quantities of greenhouse gases, these coal-fired plants pollute the air, water, and land, threatening the livelihoods of local residents.
Deforestation is also widespread.
In the North Morowali region alone, more than 8,700 hectares of tropical rainforest have been cleared for mines, smelters, and infrastructure development.
This has compromised the health of watersheds and destroyed habitats that support ecosystems and biodiversity.
Furthermore, it has led to large-scale contamination of vital agricultural land and water sources upon which local communities depend.

While the European Parliament has vocally advocated for halting "anthropogenic global warming and environmental destruction," it has simultaneously placed blind faith in the "transition to electric vehicles (EVs)."
Mainstream media outlets—which have reported on these developments without any critical scrutiny—along with China, a nation fixated on establishing global hegemony, have acted in concert; the result has been an expansion, rather than a reduction, of environmental destruction.
In fact, their actions have led to outcomes diametrically opposed to what was supposedly intended for the sake of the global environment.
Ultimately, this "transition to EVs" has triggered the emission of vast quantities of greenhouse gases—generated through the energy-intensive processes of deforestation and resource extraction—thereby significantly accelerating global warming.
Furthermore, the heavy metals and pollutants released during these extraction activities contaminate the environment, pushing numerous living organisms, including humans, toward the brink of extinction.
Legacy media will never report this fact.
Instead, they continue to churn out articles that exalt electric vehicles (EVs) as the "saviors" that will solve environmental destruction.
Meanwhile, many people—uninformed and lacking access to reliable information—blindly believe the lies peddled by legacy media, unwittingly contributing to global warming and environmental degradation.
They squander vast sums of taxpayer money—essentially throwing it down the drain—and, by purchasing Chinese-made EVs, end up funneling funds to China—a hegemonic power—thereby becoming complicit in the production of lethal weaponry.
The Earth will continue to be destroyed, driven by those who fail to think critically and who are easily swayed by the information they consume.
