I came across a YouTube video analyzing the "ORION SCR-B9" and decided to take a look.
What caught my attention in the video was the frequency response.
In my view, the low-frequency performance is perfectly acceptable as is.
Since the unit features a rear-facing bass-reflex port, you can achieve surprisingly rich bass simply by adjusting the distance between the back of the device and the wall.
On the other hand, the high-frequency range sounded harsh from the start.
The measurements shown in the video reveal significant and irregular fluctuations. The video concludes that the tweeter itself is the problem—even suggesting a replacement with a higher-quality soft-dome tweeter—but I do not find this to be a sound judgment.
If a 4-ohm tweeter is connected using only a single 4.7μF capacitor, the cutoff frequency is approximately 8,500 Hz; for a 6-ohm tweeter, it would be 5,600 Hz.
Looking at the frequency response graph, irregular behavior is already apparent around 2,000 Hz, which makes it clear that the tweeter alone is not the sole cause.
It is essential to measure the woofer and tweeter individually—by blocking one while testing the other—to isolate their respective characteristics.
The analysis should begin by measuring each driver separately to understand its inherent properties.
The "F03910D0" full-range driver, manufactured by Kitanippon Onkyo, exhibits similar characteristics: its output begins to decline gradually from around 3,000 Hz. Beyond 5,000 Hz, the response becomes unstable, which suggests the occurrence of "break-up" (modal vibration) in the diaphragm.
The full-range driver (or woofer) used in the "ORION SCR-B9" appears to have a low-frequency resonance point, likely situated around 2,000 Hz.
If you intend to continue using this unit, a standard approach would be to add a coil (inductor) to the woofer circuit, replace the tweeter with one that has a lower fundamental resonant frequency ($f_0$), and then make adjustments to ensure a smooth crossover transition near 2,000 Hz.
