During the women's 70kg quarterfinal match at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, China's Tang Jing committed a barbaric act by fiercely biting the arm of Japan's Rin Maeda while being held down.
Tang Jing persisted in this foul—biting Maeda's arm—for over 20 seconds before the referee finally called "Mate" (stop).
When the referee declared Tang Jing the loser due to the foul and confirmed Maeda's advancement to the semifinals, Tang Jing appeared dissatisfied, wearing an expression that seemed to ask, "Why did I lose?"
Chinese media reported the details of the incident back home, noting that a highly controversial ruling had been made during the women's judo competition at the Nagoya Asian Games.
Readers who saw the reports voiced strong criticism, with harsh comments such as, "An athlete who resorts to biting because they cannot win should be suspended," and "They ought to be ashamed of themselves."

A series of unbelievable incidents has plagued the Nagoya Asian Games—including errors that could potentially escalate into international issues—and unsettling problems have also arisen during matches between Japan and China in other sports.
For instance, during the men's table tennis competition, a Japanese player was subjected to a camera flash while playing, causing a temporary suspension of the match.
Then came this incident where a Chinese athlete bit an opponent's arm.
Personally, I suspect that this biting incident was orchestrated by the Chinese judo team, rather than being an impulsive act committed by the athlete on her own.
The fact that the biting occurred during the semifinal match is significant.
It is reported that Tang Jing did not let go for a full twenty seconds, even after being warned.
I suspect the aim was to ensure the Japanese athlete sustained an injury, thereby putting her at a disadvantage for the final.
If that is indeed the case, it is deeply unsettling; it suggests that relations between Japan and China have reached a stage akin to open conflict.
This news has become a topic of discussion in China as well, and it is a saving grace that many are criticizing the athlete; unfortunately, however, neither the athlete nor the Chinese delegation has yet issued an official apology or statement.
