The US is considering an additional 12.5% tariff on goods from Japan.

The sanctions target four individuals, including Liz Cuesta Peraza, wife of former Prime Minister Díaz-Canel, two members of the Castro family, and five organizations, including the Cuban Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

The United States and Cuba have been in conflict for many years, but President Trump is using oil as a weapon to bring down the Cuban regime.
In recent years, fearing US sanctions, neighboring Latin American countries have adopted a tougher stance against Cuba.
As a result, oil exports from Mexico to Cuba have been halted.
Mexico and Venezuela were Cuba's largest oil importers.

China has finally angered the United States.
From now on, the US will likely weaken the Chinese economy by imposing high tariffs on products and companies that use Chinese-made parts.
First, Chinese-made EVs will be completely shut down.
The US will not hesitate to intervene politically and send in troops against pro-China countries that follow China's lead.

Sanctions against Venezuela and Iran are one such strategy.
The US-China war has quietly begun.

Japanese companies should also quickly cut ties with China and withdraw their capital as soon as possible.
By betraying the United States and Japan and indulging in close ties with China, Honda Motor Co. will likely be seen as the most dangerous company by the United States in the future.

Xi Jinping threatened the United States with the phrase "Thucydides' Trap."

During a summit meeting with US President Trump on May 14, 2026, President Xi Jinping invoked the name of the ancient Greek historian Thucydides to threaten President Trump.
At the beginning of the meeting, Xi Jinping stated, "China and the United States should overcome the so-called 'Thucydides Trap' and build a new paradigm for great power relations."

While this sounds like a dignified question, it is Xi Jinping's skillful misuse of history and a threat.
The "Thucydides Trap" refers to a phenomenon in international politics where war becomes inevitable due to "fear" between an existing hegemonic power and a rapidly rising emerging power.

The current US-China conflict stems from China's continued hardline stance towards Taiwan.
While a US-China war may unfortunately break out, it will not be due to "fear on both sides," but rather escalated by China's clear intentions and actions.

********** my opinion ***************

Since around 2017, Xi Jinping has repeatedly suggested to the United States a "global division of US-China interests."
However, the United States has no intention of responding.
The US is fundamentally a G1 nation, and because its ideology is too different, it simply cannot accept China, which has become a powerful North Korea.

This signifies that Xi Jinping has clearly acknowledged the risk of a US-China war.

The purges and expulsions of key Chinese military officials who have opposed a US-China war and tried to stop Xi Jinping's reckless actions are likely part of war preparations.
In fact, this may indicate that Xi Jinping is truly cornered.

However, by making such a bold statement, he is effectively telling the world that "China will enter into war in the near future."
Naturally, investors worldwide will flee China en masse.
China is already suffering from an economic recession, but it will reach its breaking point, and riots will erupt in various places.
If that happens, even China's wealthy and businesses will flee to other countries.
A prolonged war requires talented personnel, vast amounts of capital and resources, and technology.
No matter how confident Xi Jinping may be in his ability to win the war, defeating the United States is simply impossible.

For example, if even one small missile were to hit the Three Gorges Dam, the Chinese Communist Party regime would easily collapse.

BYD初の軽EV「RACCO」は販売不振で終わるだろうと予測 / BYD's first mini-EV, the "RACCO," is predicted to end up with poor sales.

  https://kuruma-news.jp/post/1066426

New information has been released regarding BYD's first compact electric vehicle, the "RACCO."
While its 300km range and sliding doors have generated excitement, concerns have also been raised about its price and the fact that it's "made by a Chinese manufacturer."

I've seen information online that the development staff for the "Nissan Sakura" were involved in the development of this model.
Perhaps because of this, its performance seems to be almost identical to the Sakura.
Two versions are available: a "200km type" and a "300km type," but the actual range should probably be considered to be around "150km" and "225km" or less.

The Japanese government is offering subsidies of 150,000 to 450,000 yen for BYD electric vehicles.
BYD seems to be making considerable efforts to keep prices down, but even considering the Japanese subsidies, the actual selling price may exceed 2.5 million yen.
If that's the case, the number of "RACCO" units sold in Japan is unlikely to be high.

Contrary to BYD's expectations, the Japanese market is no longer in demand for light EVs.
For example, while the number of Nissan Sakuras sold in Japan wasn't particularly high, there's an overwhelming surplus of them flooding the used car market at surprisingly low prices.
Considering that some vehicles, only three years old, have dropped to as low as 880,000 yen, it's reasonable to assume the previous owners sold them for a very low price.
As rumored, the resale value of used EVs is likely terrible, and sales of used cars are probably not good either.

If I were considering buying a light electric vehicle, I would choose a reliable used Sakura.

自動車業界における世界のEVシェアの推移 / Trends in the global EV market share in the automotive industry

  https://www.spglobal.com/mobility/en/info/0824/jp-essential-paper-mobility-landscape-article-07.html

It appears that the market share of EVs is declining not only in Japan but also globally.
The biggest reason for this is likely the reduction in subsidies.
Ultimately, the product had no marketability without subsidies.
And the world has finally realized the illusion that EVs are environmentally friendly.
The reason for the growth in market share was a kind of "doping" through subsidies.

China, which owns the most EVs in the world, had poured a lot of money into them as a national policy.
And the electricity generated by low-quality coal-fired power plants, which accelerate global warming, was extremely cheap at 13.9 yen/kW.

Electricity rates in Japan are 35.5 yen/kW, so China's rates are extremely low, about 1/2.5 of Japan's.
Furthermore, gasoline prices in Japan and China are comparable. (May 2026)

The electricity powering electric vehicles in China is generated from low-quality coal-fired power plants, emitting large amounts of greenhouse gases.
Coal-fired power is the dominant source of electricity for both industrial and residential use.
Naturally, China consumes the most coal in the world, reaching 4.24 billion tons.
This coal consumption has been the driving force behind China's economic development.

Naturally, China's greenhouse gas emissions account for a very large 30% of the world's total emissions.
However, considering the amount extracted, the actual figure may be even higher.

Even though the EU and Japan have diligently pursued their ideals and made wise efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, China has ruined everything.
China is the country that has drastically accelerated global warming in recent years.
The world should pay more attention to this fact.

Some Japanese people still buy Chinese-made electric vehicles, completely disregarding these facts.
The reasons vary, from attractive appearances to low maintenance costs, but if you delve into the truth, you'll find that the belief that "EVs contribute to preventing global warming" is nothing more than an illusion and a false image.

Some automotive critics even shamelessly praise Chinese-made EVs on YouTube, and some even go so far as to say that "the Japanese automotive industry will decline."
These people clearly don't care about preventing global warming.
They are nothing but money-grubbers.

Japanese automotive critics remain unreliable.

Mr. Kunisawa, automotive critic, what do you think of the "Sea Lion 6"?

This video presents the car in a very positive light, but don't be fooled.
I used to think this car critic was a reliable reviewer, but it seems he's succumbed to the allure of money, as his evaluation is questionable.

The Sea Lion 6's rating on the well-known "Kakaku.com" website isn't very good.
Considering the vehicle's weight and engine specifications, that's not surprising.
The fuel economy isn't great for this type of vehicle either; apparently, it's only 13-15 km/L when the battery is depleted on the highway.
Even this figure is questionable, as it's calculated from the vehicle's information rather than using the full-tank method.
Since it's made in China, can we really trust the meter readings?

PHEVs carry heavy batteries.
Therefore, the vehicle weight is an extremely heavy 2100 kg.
The engine prioritizes fuel efficiency and is very underpowered at 1500cc (98ps).
If the battery is fully charged at home, it will probably run reasonably well, but once the traction battery is depleted, it will only be able to perform at a speed lower than a kei car (mini car).
For example, on an uphill section of a highway, it might only be able to maintain a speed of 100 km/h.
Those considering purchasing one should test it by driving it after the battery is depleted before making a purchase.

I can't believe anyone would bother buying a car made by a Chinese automaker that might withdraw from Japan at any moment, especially one with such poor performance.
Anyone would agree that it's not a car worth taking the risk to buy.

支那国BYD、1─3月期は大幅減益・原因は国内販売の低迷 / China's BYD reports a significant decline in profits for the first quarter (January-March), due to sluggish domestic sales.

https://jp.reuters.com/markets/world-indices/VCCKHVF36VPXBPQRGPYIR2ZNJA-2026-04-28/

BYD announced that its net profit for the first quarter of 2026 (January-March) fell 55.4% year-on-year to approximately 9.57 billion yen.
This decline is attributed to the Chinese authorities reducing subsidies for EV purchases, as well as intensified competition from companies such as Geely, L1Ao, and Tesla. BYD's total sales have been declining for seven consecutive months.

By strengthening its overseas operations, including local production, BYD aims to achieve overseas sales of 1.5 million units in 2026.

******************************

BYD's plan to launch the "Racco" mini-EV exclusively for the Japanese market this year is likely due to sluggish sales in China.
However, in Japan, where reliability and after-sales support are prioritized over product novelty, it will likely be difficult for BYD to increase its market share in the future.

The EV sales situation in Japan is extremely difficult to begin with.
While the launch of mini EVs in 2022 temporarily increased market share, it has since fallen back to its lowest level.
In fiscal year 2026, the introduction of new models by Toyota and Honda resulted in a slight increase in market share to around 3%, but continued stagnation is expected.

At this point, selling mini EVs with designs strikingly similar to domestic mini cars no longer feels fresh or innovative.
BYD will likely withdraw from the Japanese automobile market in the near future, and given its struggles in sales in China, it may follow a similar path to China Evergrande Group.

近年の爆発的な環境負荷の拡大は、EUと中国が進めた急進的なEVシフトが原因である/The explosive increase in environmental impact in recent years is due to the radical shift to electric vehicles (EVs) promoted by the EU and China.

 https://merkmal-biz.jp/post/105097#google_vignette

In October 2025, a research team at Duke University in the United States published an analysis in the scientific journal "PLOS Climate" of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEs).

Their calculations estimate that extracting one ton of lithium emits 15 tons of CO2 and consumes 100 tons of water.
This means that the production of one EV battery emits 15.6 tons of CO2.
Furthermore, since much of the electricity used to charge EV batteries is generated from fossil fuels, EVs also indirectly emit CO2 while driving.
As a result, according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail," a Volkswagen "e-Golf" would need to travel approximately 124,000 km to contribute to environmental protection.

In recent years, there has been much discussion about whether EVs are truly effective in combating global warming, or whether they actually worsen it.

In particular, China's annual automobile production capacity is approximately 55 million units, but domestic sales have decreased to the low 20 million units. Even with an estimated utilization rate of around 50%, the industry as a whole has a surplus production capacity of approximately 35 million units per year.
As a result, these 35 million EVs that cannot be sold are either left abandoned or scrapped.

 廃棄車両3500万台×15.6t(バッテリー製造時に発生した1台あたりCO2)=546,000,000t

35 million scrapped vehicles × 15.6 tons (CO2 emissions per vehicle during battery manufacturing) = 546,000,000 tons

Simple calculations suggest that the manufacturing process of unused batteries emits 546 million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
This figure is merely an estimate of the carbon dioxide generated during the production of batteries for unused and discarded electric vehicles (EVs); the actual emissions would be far greater if all vehicle production were included.
Considering that Japan's total carbon dioxide emissions in 2020 were only 1 billion tons, the world should pay more attention to the enormous burden that China places on the global environment.

The environmental impact of electric vehicles (EVs) varies greatly depending on the power generation method.

When discussing EVs, some people claim that switching from thermal power plants to solar power will solve the problem, but this is a major misconception.
In recent years, large-scale solar power plants have become a serious environmental problem in Japan.
Cutting down forests that absorb carbon dioxide semi-permanently to build massive solar power plants that only function for a mere 10-20 years is nothing short of foolish.

What about nuclear power?
Even this power generation method does not produce zero carbon dioxide emissions.
A lot of CO2 is generated during the extraction, transportation, and management of nuclear materials.
Furthermore, it would burden future generations with dangerous nuclear materials generated after power generation, making it an extremely risky option.

The outcome is already clear.
The shift to electric vehicles (EVs), driven by the profit motives of certain individuals and nations, has significantly worsened global warming.
Now is the time to say goodbye to EVs.
And buy hybrid vehicles, which can minimize environmental impact to the greatest extent possible.
This is the most effective way to reduce environmental impact with current technology.
